No smoking signs and enforcement by local authorities
Now that the UK has gone Smokefree it is mandatory for public buildings to have No Smoking signs and it is against the law to smoke in public buildings. Enforcement of this is down to the local authorities.
I went to the Walsall Illuminations at the weekend (a proper review will be in a future post), and in the toilets at the park and ride there were no signs indicating it was no smoking and someone was smoking in there.
What is so significant about this is that the Walsall Illuminations are run by the local council, who haven’t applied the rules they are responsible for enforcing. I am sure that this is an oversight rather than a deliberate attempt to break the law. I hope they apply the same enforcement to themselves as they would apply to others.
