DVD and CD Review: My First Christmas Album
When I first saw “My First Christmas Album” in a CD case I thought it was very expensive for a Childrens Music CD. On closer inspection the last line says cd + dvd, which explains why it is a bit more expensive.
The DVD and CD compliment each other, with the CD available to play for just the songs, and the DVD providing visual entertainment to accompany some of the songs on the CD.
The Songs on the CD are not performed by the original artists, but do sound good. Children are used for some of the Carols and on the DVD.
The packaging suggests that these are suitable for pre-school children, but I’m sure young school children (up to about 8 or 9) would also appreciate them, although the title and childlike look of the case does aim for the younger children or baby.
The DVD provides a collection of different activities including: Stories; Songs; Carols; Action Songs and some Games. These are done using either basic animations (used in the Songs and Stories), and school children used in the Carols and Songs with Actions. The Games are very basic games of choosing the right colour, letter or number. It’s worth mentioning that this is a UK produced CD & DVD with british spelling (e.g. colour rather than color), and British accents. This makes a welcome change when many of the children Movie DVDs are created with an American bias. The song "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus" retains the American word of mommy.
The one thing that I would have liked to have seen is a "play all" option on the DVD which would play through all the different songs, carols and action songs. Each of these categories do have their own "play all" option, but there are only a few songs within each part.
I am very glad with the purchase, a great buy that can be enjoyed by all the family.
