Responding to the floods – Leamington Rescue Centre
On Saturday I was one of the many St John Ambulance members that responded to the national disaster caused by the flooding across England. My own involvement was minimal, but other members contributed a great towards the rescue efforts.
In total over 100 volunteers were involved around the country to help those effected by the flooding. This was done through ambulances and 4×4 vehicles helping to support the ambulance services and assisting with 24 hour rescue centres.
My own involvement involved helping to set-up a rescue centre in Leamington to provide a safe area for people that were to be evacuated. Although the river did burst its banks and a large amount of flooding occurred thankfully nobody needed to evacuate to the rescue centre and the centre was later closed down.
