CD Review: Child friendly Greased Lightning – Kidz Grease

Kidz Grease CDI’ve been looking for a while for a child friendly version of Greased Lightning. I’ve certainly heard the original version used at other children’s discos before, but it includes the words s**t and t*t, which are not words I’d like my 4 year daughter singing along to, just yet.

I also have a disco set-up and I wanted a clean version that I wouldn’t be embarrassed about playing in front of other people’s children.

In the past I used to use iTunes, but I need to be able to play my music on Linux. Also running iTunes through wine is not an option as I want to use Mixxx DJ software. I tried to download a version I though would be suitable from the It’s Still Party Time album, which turned out to be as inappropriate as the rest. I have contacted Amazon to ask them to put some kind of explicit lyrics warning against the download, but it’s fallen on deaf ears, and they didn’t want to know.

After much searching I’ve now found a site that sells a limited number of Children friendly CD and DVDs. The site is: www.kidsmusic.co.uk. The Kidz Grease CD available from there is a much more appropriate version.

The greased lightning track still contains some of the innuendos, but most children would not realise what they are. The words mentioned earlier have been excluded.

The CD is a cover version, but is pretty good. In a couple of songs it includes some children backing singing as well to make the songs seam a little more child friendly.

The songs included are:

  1. Grease
  2. Summer Nights
  3. Hopelessly Devoted to You
  4. You’re the One that I Want
  5. Sandy
  6. Greased Lightning
  7. It’s Raining on Prom Night
  8. We Go Together
  9. Grease Megamix

Other than the few changes to some words most of these are similar to the originals. The only one that doesn’t appear to be is the Grease Megamix. I’ve got another Grease Megamix that is much better, but again contains inappropriate language.

If you like the music of Grease, but would rather shield your children from the inappropriate language in the original then this is worth getting.
